Welcome to Grangeville
![]() ![]()
Grangeville, Idaho is a welcoming small town in the heart of the beautiful Camas Prairie of North Central Idaho. With a population of just over 3,000, Grangeville serves as the county seat of Idaho County, the largest county in the state. Idaho County is the size of New Jersey with a single traffic light and a population of less than 20,000 people!
Grangeville has long been the cultural and commercial hub of the prairie communities. The town sits at the edge of the fertile Camas Prairie, a wide, rolling plateau known for its rich farmland, open skies, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. For thousands of years this prairie was a gathering place for the Nez Perce (Nimiipuu) people, who harvested the blue flowering camas plant that gave the region its name. Today the Camas Prairie remains a thriving agricultural region where wheat fields, ranches, and family farms shape both the landscape and the strong work ethic of the community. Grangeville stands where the prairie meets the mountains of the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forest, offering easy access to some of the most breathtaking outdoor recreation in Idaho—hiking, fishing, hunting, rafting, and exploring the nearby Salmon and Clearwater River canyons. Life here moves at a friendlier pace. Neighbors know one another, families put down deep roots, and community events—from rodeos and county fairs to local sports and school activities—bring people together throughout the year. For those of us blessed to live here, Grangeville and the Camas Prairie represent the best of small-town America: strong families, a deep connection to the land, and a community where faith, hard work, and neighborly care still matter. |
